Biography

David Woodland
 
David Woodland was born in Perth and trained at the Western Australian Institute of Technology, graduating in 1979. Since then he has worked full-time in his own studio in Applecross, Perth, as well as teaching part-time. In 1982 he was Senior Fellow in Ceramics at the Fremantle Arts Centre.

David Woodland currently lives in Sydney, Australia, working as a children’s book author and illustrator and concept artist and designer for film. He has 20 years experience as a designer on feature films, including ‘Lord of The Rings’, ‘Happy Feet’, ‘Moulin Rouge’, ‘Thor’, ‘Pacific Rim 2’, ‘Legend of the Guardians’ and the ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ arena production. David also has a creative history as an exhibiting artist, animator, character/production designer for contemporary dance and puppetry. David was is a recipient of a Churchill Fellowship, a Visual Effects Society Award, is a Cannes Lions Grand Prix winner, and is represented in the Australian National Art Gallery.
