Biography
K. Westra
Marinus Christiann Geradus Westra, known as Kees or Keith, was born in Holland in 1926. He received little formal training in cabinet-making and after spending the war in England and Indonesia, returned to Holland where he was employed making radio cabinets. After visiting Australia in 1950, he returned in 1951 with his wife and settled in Canberra. Initially he worked for the Government, then a Mr Schreiner and then a Mr Elfin in Fyshwick, before setting up his own business in Barrier Street, Fyshwick, A.C.T., in 1976, calling it K. Westra. The business grew very successfully and around 1972 it was moved to Kembla Street, Fyshwick. Due to ill-health Westra retired and closed the business around 1973.
Kees Westra died on 29 January 1976.
