Biography
J.M. Wendt
Jochim Matthias Wendt was born in 1830 in Dageling, Denmark. He learnt his trade as a watchmaker and silversmith there before emigrating to South Australia in 1854.
His business prospered in Adelaide and in 1871 he opened a shop in Mount Gambier, SA. He also had another branch in Broken Hill, NSW.
J.M. Wendt died in 1917 and the business was continued by his stepson Herman K. Coeppen, who used his stepfather's name as the business name. The business continues today in Adelaide, although the Mount Gambier and Broken Hill branches are defunct.
