Biography

Charles Doutney studied at the J.S. Watkins Art School, Sydney, in the 1930s. Following war service in the RAAF he studied at East Sydney Technical College’s annexe at Strathfield from c1945. His fellow students included Jon Molvig, Stan de Teliga and John Coburn. In 1952 he won the Sulman Prize. Doutney had his first one-man show at Sydney’s Macquarie Gallery in 1955. He exhibited paintings, etchings and monotypes in Melbourne from 1957.
