Bird's Eye View of Sidney Harbour. - Messrs. Allan and Wigley, of Brrlge-street, have just issued, (from a drawing by Mr. P. C. Terry, taken from the tower of St. James's,) a lithograph of our magnificent harbour, upon a large scale : the artist's object, as appears from the print itself, having been merely to produce a bird's eye view of Port Jackson, from the Heads to within a little of Billy Blue's Point, including the islands by which it is so beautifully dotted, together with all the bays and indentations on either side. In this he has been completely successful. The foreground, we may remark, appears neither to be so carefully drawn, nor elaborated, as it might have been ; but being, as we suppose, simply intended as an accessory, and forming no essential portion of the picture, this must be regarded as a matter of minor consequence. This print should have appeared some months ago, the delay, we understand, having been occasioned by the printers being necessitated to procure paper expressly from England, none sufficiently large for that purpose being obtainable in the colony.[Sydney Morning Herald, 25 May 1858, page 5, column 1.] Click here for full text
